President-elect Barack Obama met Monday with congressional leaders and his economic team as he worked to advance an economic recovery program that advisers say will include $300 billion in tax cuts meant partly to win over skeptics who said the plan focused too heavily on government spending.
Over the weekend, Merkel secured her right flank by agreeing to demands by the Christian Social Union, the Bavarian conservative party, to include tax cuts as part of any stimulus. The conservatives are now seeking an increase in the portion of income exempted from tax entirely, as well an indexing plan that would prevent taxpayers from creeping into higher brackets because of inflation, rather than real income gains.
Quer nos Estados Unidos, quer na Alemanha, os planos de estimulo económico incluirão cortes nos impostos.
